Final Project Proposal

I have decided to create a website for my final project. This website will be a type of portfolio that showcases my work which includes photography and short films. I want to initially try to create my website with Adobe Spark. I did some research on the program and looked at sample websites. It is definitely an interesting way to present information or tell a story.

I do not want to make the site a lengthy story about myself, but I will likely make it into a chronological journey of my work and how it has progressed over the years. I was taking photos when I was in elementary school. I may mention things like my VTech Kidizoom camera. The thing was indestructible, made of mostly rubber and plastic, but it was my first camera and what really got me started with photography. I will transition into my middle school years when I first started taking classes in photography at In-Sight. In-Sight is where I learned that photography would be a big part of my life. There I also grew to love analog and shooting with film. Some of my most beloved photos, like of my Aunt before her wedding in her dress, I shot on film. I will definitely include all of that work that I have saved, which will be interesting because since I only have physical copies of what I have shot on film, no one has ever really seen my work with film.

Coincidentally, my film teacher last year had us make one-minute documentaries about something we loved, and I chose photography. So, I can include that as well. What I love about that film is that it has interviews from others talking about me and my photography, so I feel like there's some validity behind it. I will also include my awards from the Scholastic Art and Writing contest. I have had eight of my photos chosen for the art award, five which earned silver keys.

Photographing my first wedding was additionally important to my experience in photography. Wedding photos are also some of my best I believed. It is so easy when there is a fluster of activity and people are happy to capture all these beautiful moments; I only wish i had a clone to be in multiple places at one taking photos! I will transition into when I developed a serious interest in movies and filmmaking. I attended the School For Creative and Performing Arts in Burlington, VT one summer and created my first fictional film on my own, with plenty of help, and had it shown publicly which was a significant moment in my decision to pursue a career in the film industry.

From there I will include my work on the Brattleboro Union High School television show and in the Windham Regional Career Center’s film class (which was highly intensive). My experience working with the Vermont Film Institute, shooting behind the scenes in a 9/11 PBS documentary, and working on a history channel battleship doc will all be included as well. I have plenty of photos that I am authorized to share from documentaries.

I am thinking I will include a section on what might be coming next for me and my developing career. I just wrote a paper for my Dimensions of Self and Society class on career exploration and my interest in cinematography. I so can include some of my research from that project, and I can also record a more in-depth film interview with Tony Bacon, who I interview for my 1-minute audio recording last week. He has extensive experience in the field, and I love to gain more words of wisdom from him.

I have so much content to share that organizing it and assuring each piece is concise, yet interesting will be essential. Of the sample sites I explored on the Adobe Spark website, I enjoyed the ones that had the least amount of text. When the page scrolled to a beautiful image that took up the entire space, it was quite breathtaking. I am also taking into consideration how I can keep a smooth theme going throughout my page. All the photographer sites I looked through had a general theme, similar photos with similar colors and feelings to them. The theme kept a steady, nice feeling to the entire website. They did not go from close-up portraits suddenly to wildlife photography. Consistency seems to be key, and I am not sure how to do that with my wide range of material. Much of my work is different due to different subject matter and the fact that I have grown as an artist over the years and continue to. I think having everything in an organized, chronological order will help with that. Creating a clear evolution of work and a simple story may work in making my page logical and aesthetically pleasing. I am excited to get started!
